Preschool Pre-Literacy Class

Reading-Ready is a pre-literacy class uniquely designed for preschool children ages 4 to 5.  Little learners develop and strengthen essential pre-reading skills known as phonological awareness by exploring and playing with the words, syllables, and individual sounds we hear in everyday spoken language.

Learn more about phonological awareness on the blog and why it's essential to reading.

The instruction and interactive activities of Reading-Ready are themed around a beloved children’s book that hooks each child’s interest!  With every story shared in Reading-Ready, children also grow in other important areas of literacy including listening comprehension, vocabulary development, story elements (e.g., characters, problem and solution), and print concepts (e.g., title, author).

Reading-Ready Spring ‘23

Wednesdays, March 22 - May 3, 2023 (This class is FULL.)

Mondays, March 27 - May 15, 2023 (This class is FULL.)

Reading-Ready Spring ‘23 will be themed around the very silly stories of author Jan Thomas.  Instruction will target the most advanced level of phonological awareness known as phonemic awareness.  As children hone in on individual sounds called phonemes, decoding of basic words (using letters) will also be introduced.  Class size will be limited this term to provide more individualized instruction of complex skills.
